A Mentorship Experience with History!
Girls Night Out is about giving young girls the opportunity to be mentored by female student-athletes at the varsity level while honouring the history of great women who were addicted to basketball and gave so much to women's basketball. g.a.b participants are invited to spend an evening watching and meeting the players from a varsity women’s basketball game for free. Ryerson University has been gracious in hosting the "Girls Night Out" during the late Women's Head Coach Sandra Pothier, which has been a fun and exciting experience for the youth. Visiting a varsity locker room, meeting and talking one-on-one with the players and coaching staff are just some of the highlights the girls experience. Girls Night Out at Ryerson is sometimes offered during the Darcel Wright Memorial Tournament. |

Darcel Wright Memorial Tournament
The late Darcel Wright was a personal friend, coach and mentor to our g.a.b founder, Tanya Callaghan. Darcel Wright was one of many strong, confident female leaders who inspired our founder to create g.a.b. Darcel Wright was an exceptionally talented basketball player who also played at Ryerson University under the leadership of the late Head Coach, Sandy Pothier. Darcel later became an assistant coach to Sandy Pothier where she impacted many players. It was 2008 when Darcel took her final breath in her fight against cancer. The late Sandy Pothier saw it fitting to rename the "Ryerson Rams Classic Tournament" to "Darcel Wright Memorial Tournament" to honour an inspirational leader.
